About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Electrician Chargehand to join our dynamic team working on the HS2 project in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in electrical systems, HFR (Human Form Recognition) experience, or electro-mechanical and heavy plant knowledge. You will be responsible for overseeing electrical installations, coordinating work teams, ensuring high safety standards, and supporting the successful execution of this world-class project.

This project is paid PAYE direct at £32.21 with uplifts for overtime and nights (£42.83) and weekends (£48.31)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage electrical installations and maintenance work on-site, ensuring adherence to health, safety, and quality standards.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of electricians, ensuring all work is carried out efficiently and to the highest standards.
  • Perform electrical fault-finding, diagnostics, and repairs on electro-mechanical systems, including heavy plant machinery.
  • Work collaboratively with engineers and other trades to ensure smooth project progress and effective problem-solving.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, regulatory standards, and company policies.
  • Coordinate with management to allocate resources, monitor progress, and provide regular updates on project status.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to safety, ensuring risk assessments and method statements are completed and adhered to.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as an Electrical Chargehand or in a supervisory electrical role, ideally in heavy plant or electro-mechanical environments.
  • Strong understanding of HFR (Human Form Recognition) systems and applications.
  • Demonstrable experience working with heavy plant machinery and large-scale electrical installations.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to mentor and motivate a diverse team.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Full electrical qualifications (e.g., 18th Edition, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent).
  • Valid CSCS card, with relevant site-based qualifications (e.g., SSSTS, SMSTS).
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and a keen eye for detail.

Desirable:

  • Experience working on large infrastructure projects such as HS2.
  • Additional qualifications in HFR, electro-mechanical systems, or plant operations.
  • First aid and additional safety qualifications.
