Any company using an Agency to provide temporary workers will have to pay close attention to the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) due to come into force on the 1st October this year. From that date agency workers will have the right to the same facilities as comparable workers that are directly employed by the hiring customer. In addition, but following a qualifying period, agency workers will be entitled to the same pay as directly employed comparable workers. There are some exclusions and much detail to digest in terms of the workings but now is the time to start thinking about the AWR and the implications it may have on UK company workforces. Official guidance has yet to be published by the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills, but we’ll be publishing some further interim information for customers on our website soon. sean@mcginley.co.uk
