On Friday, a team of ten from McGinley Support Services took part in the inaugural Big Construction Diversity Challenge, held at Newark Airfield. Designed specifically for the construction sector, this was the first event of its kind — following the success of the long-established Rail Diversity Challenge, which McGinley has proudly supported for a number of years.
The new construction-focused event brought together teams from across the industry for a day of energetic, entertaining and meaningful challenges — from inflatable assault courses and human table football to blindfolded face painting and hat-making. While light-hearted on the surface, each activity was purposefully designed to break down barriers, promote teamwork, and highlight the importance of inclusion across all levels of the construction workforce.
At McGinley, we understand that diversity and inclusion aren't just box-ticking exercises — they’re fundamental to building stronger teams, safer workplaces, and a more sustainable future for our sector. That’s why we’ve been long-term supporters of the Rail Diversity Challenge, and why we were enthusiastic to join the first ever event aimed squarely at the construction industry.
Events like this create space for real connection, where individuals from different companies, backgrounds, and job roles come together outside of the usual work environment. They challenge assumptions, strengthen collaboration, and encourage open, inclusive mindsets — all essential qualities for an industry that continues to face challenges in attracting and retaining a diverse talent pool.
As a recruitment specialist in infrastructure, McGinley is committed to helping our clients and candidates drive positive change. From inclusive recruitment practices to workforce development and social value programmes, we embed equality and diversity into every stage of our support.
We’d like to extend our thanks to the organisers of the Big Construction Diversity Challenge for putting on such a powerful and engaging event. We were proud to take part — and excited to see this new addition to the industry calendar continue to grow in years to come.
