Day in the Life: Jean Gillet - Store Person

Jean Gillet has been working at Heathrow Airport, for McGinley since 2018 as a Store Person. When visiting the site, it is guaranteed you will be welcomed by her infectious smile and offered a nice cup of tea.

She has two grown-up sons and likes to spend her free time at a local allotment. It keeps her fit and might come in handy taking into consideration recent vegetable shortages, she says.

What’s an average day like?

Jean’s daily responsibilities are looking after the site store, performing welfare duties, dealing with deliveries and collections, and also completing COSH evaluations and power tool checks.

What led you to join the rail/construction industry?

Jean said she was told about the opportunity to work at Heathrow by one of McGinley’s Account Managers in a casual conversation. She decided to give it a go and applied and admitted it was a very good decision as she loves it! She has progressed in her role and received relevant training opportunities since she started.

What advice do you have for other women thinking of working in this industry?

I am proud to be a part of the team and I am delighted to see more and more females working on the site, including Traffic Marshalls, Plant Operators and Engineers.
