Day in the Life of an Apprentice: Kareemot Aderemi Ayode

Meet Kareemot - our Level 2 Rail Engineering Operative Apprentice!

What led you to apply for an apprenticeship?

I applied for the McGinley apprenticeship because I took an Engineering course in college and loved the practical element. So, I wanted to gain more relevant real-world experience.

What are your highlights so far?

  • Being able to earn and learn at the same time
  • Getting some real work experience and support
  • Learning something new every day and meeting new people

What do you hope to do after your apprenticeship/what are your future career goals?

Once I complete my apprenticeship, wish to become an S&T Technician.

What advice do you have for other women thinking of working in this industry?

Never relent and have it in mind that “what a man can do, a woman can do better”. Being the only woman in my on-track team is challenging, but they are really supportive and push me harder to achieve my goals.
