On Thursday, 25th July, key members of McGinley Support Services had the privilege of attending an engagement tour at the Atlas Road site, a significant part of the HS2 mega project. This visit was led by Ciara Coleman, Labour Manager, Pat O'Reilly, Head of Operations (South), and Sam Knight, Health and Safety Manager. They were joined by Kevin Coughtrie, Senior General Foreman from our esteemed client, SCS.
The purpose of the tour was multifaceted: to receive an update on the ongoing works, understand any changes to the project's scope, and engage directly with our dedicated workforce on site. These engagements are crucial for maintaining open communication channels, ensuring the safety and well-being of our teams, and staying abreast of the project's progress.
During the visit, we had the opportunity to observe the tunnelling workshop, where Kevin provided insights into an innovative approach they are adopting. Instead of outsourcing repairs to external companies, the team is now completing repairs on-site. This not only enhances efficiency but also ensures that any issues are addressed promptly, minimising downtime.
A highlight of the visit was witnessing the operation of the gantry crane from the ground using a remote device. This modern technique showcased excellent safety practices, as we observed steel being lifted off a lorry with appropriate edge protection in place. It was an exemplary demonstration of good practice, underscoring the importance of safety measures in such complex operations.
Engaging with our workforce was a key component of the tour. We were pleased to meet and converse with several members, including Jose Almeida, Michaele Nemariam, Cristhian Santamaria, Tim Collins and Matthew Ryan. These interactions provided valuable insights into their experiences and highlighted their dedication and professionalism on-site.
Overall, the engagement tour at Atlas Road was an insightful and productive experience. It reaffirmed the importance of collaboration between McGinley Support Services and SCS, ensuring that our workforce is well-supported and that safety remains a top priority. We look forward to continuing our work on this monumental project and achieving great results together.
