At McGinley, we’re lucky to work alongside people who bring more than just their skills to the job – they bring heart, dedication, and a sense of purpose that stretches far beyond the worksite. One of those individuals is Peter.
Peter works with us on some of the most safety-critical rail projects across the country, supporting asset protection (ASPRO) work for Network Rail. This specialist area focuses on safeguarding railway infrastructure when third-party developments are underway nearby. It’s a vital service that ensures railway safety is never compromised – and Peter approaches it with a calm professionalism and deep commitment that sets the tone for those around him.
But there’s more to Peter’s story than his work here in the UK.
Back in Nigeria, Peter is a community leader – a Chief in his home town – and someone who’s quietly making a huge difference. He volunteers his time, energy, and resources to help run a local orphanage, support community infrastructure projects, and offer guidance to young people who need it most. He regularly travels back to oversee initiatives aimed at improving education and access to healthcare, giving his time in a way that many of us only wish we could.
As part of Volunteers’ Week, we wanted to recognise Peter’s incredible contribution – not just in his professional role, but in the lives he’s helping to shape thousands of miles away.
To support his work, McGinley is donating a number of unused and securely wiped tablets to the orphanage Peter helps run. These devices will provide children with better access to educational tools and online learning – a small gesture that we hope will go a long way in the right hands.
Peter’s story is a reminder that the value of our workforce extends well beyond the projects we’re hired to deliver. It's people like Peter who show us that the work we do – whether here on the railway or back in our own communities – can have a lasting impact.
