In partnership with Intertrain the UK’s largest railway training provider McGinley Support Services now offer a 13 month Rail Engineering Operative Apprenticeship. 

The programme has been designed so apprentices will become multidisciplined in P-Way track work and London Underground (LU) duties and gain a wider variety of skills and knowledge, resulting in a more diverse and broader career progression route.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

You will achieve a Level 2 in Rail Engineering Competence and a Level 2 in Rail Engineering Technical Knowledge. If you do not hold a Level 2 in Maths and English, you will be expected to achieve this in your programme. 

Rail Engineering Operatives provide support to Rail Technicians and Engineers on railway structures such as track, electrification, overhead lines and signalling. Those working within the occupation of Rail Engineering are responsible for the safe construction, installation, maintenance and renewal of the railway to provide a safe and reliable railway for customers.

You will receive specific rail and LU training;

  • PTS ACC, DCCR, ICI, Track Induction, OLEC 1LU ICI, LU Basic Track Awareness 
  • Emergency first aid at work 
  • Small Plant and Equipment including; Rail Saw, Generator, Impact Wrench, Cembre Rail Drill, Cobra Tt, Robel Tamper, Iron Man, Small Hand Tools

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible you must be 18+, be able to demonstrate a basic ability with Maths and English, be passionate about the industry. A UK Driving Licence desirable HOURSYou will be contracted for a minimum of 30 hours per week. Your training will take place at Enfield College 3 days a week. As part of your apprenticeship, you will be contracted to work unsocially hours including nights and weekends for McGinley Support Services.
