The transport sector has a vital role to play for London. As well as bringing communities together and enabling travel across the city, it also has the power to unite culture, talent and potential. But at a time when the industry is facing an increasing skills shortage, many transport businesses are yet to take advantage of tapping into new talent by diversifying their workforce.
This is where The Mayor's Fund Diversity Pledge comes in. The Diversity Pledge initiative is an outcome of the ‘En-Route to Sustainable Employment’ project, delivered by the Mayor’s Fund for London, in partnership with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
It aims to break barriers for young people from BAME backgrounds in starting sustainable careers, in particular within the transport sector. Transforming outreach, recruitment and progression practices will not only help organisations to build a more diverse employee base but also create sustainable business benefits.
