McGinley Operative Recognised for Preventing Collision on HS2 Site

Recognition for quick-thinking traffic marshal Tamrat Alemayehu at SCS T61

Earlier this year, a serious incident was narrowly avoided on the HS2 site at Victoria Road thanks to the swift actions of McGinley Support Services operative Tamrat Alemayehu. Tamrat, a traffic marshal working on SCS JV’s T61 site, instinctively intervened to prevent a collision between a lorry and a motorbike.

While managing vehicle and pedestrian movements at the entrance to the Vehicle Holding Area (VHA), Tamrat spotted a motorbike attempting to overtake a turning lorry. He acted immediately—signalling both vehicles to stop and likely preventing a serious accident. The motorbike braked sharply, and although the rider fell, no one was injured.

Tamrat’s quick thinking and vigilance were later praised by SCS leadership, including Area Logistics Manager Sol Martin and Head of Construction Logistics Jakub Golata, who presented him with a recognition voucher.

This week, Labour Manager Ciara Coleman visited site to present Tamrat with McGinley’s Employee of the Month certificate, acknowledging not only his actions that day but also his ongoing dedication and professionalism on the HS2 project.

“Tamrat’s awareness and instincts helped avoid a serious incident,” said Ciara. “We’re proud to have operatives like him representing McGinley on site.”
