McGinley signs the Building Mental Health Charter

McGinley Support Services is committed to raising the awareness of the Mental Health issues within the Infrastructure industry and as a company, we are committing to the Building Mental Health (BMH) Charter which underpins the values of our business and supports people across our industry, every day.

Building Mental Health (BMH) is a Framework, borne out of a cross-industry volunteer group created with contributions from clients, contractors, specialist sub-contractors, designers, trade associations, trade unions, regulators, training bodies. The purpose is to provide a flexible and consistent framework to enable all parts of the construction sector to access mental health support, provide awareness and training and put in place a structure and systems to support people working in and around our industry.

In signing the BMH Charter we are pledging to:

Provide awareness and understanding of the impact of poor mental ill-health to our workforce and promote positive mental health through facilitated workshops, with the aims of:

  • Reducing stigma and discrimination
  • Encouraging conversation in the workplace
  • Educate and enable champions from across the workforce to support keeping our people safe
  • Provide access to accredited Mental Health First Aid training and provide assistance to signpost workers to support in their communities
  • Recognise and accept education and training provided by peers and Building Mental Health partners

Dermot McGinley, Managing Director of McGinley Support Services comments;

“Here at McGinley Support Services we take the wellbeing of our staff and workforce seriously; it is part of our culture and family values, so I am pleased that we have signed the charter to commit to continuing to raise awareness for mental health across the infrastructure industry. As individuals, companies and an industry, we must work together to learn, recognise and act on the signs and symptoms of our colleagues who may be suffering, encouraging people that it is ok to share.”

As well as the BMH Charter, McGinley also work with other important organisations to promote positive mental health and every member of our team has access to The Construction Industry Helpline App set up by the Construction Industry Helpline and managed by the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity.

The Construction Industry Helpline App provides vital information, advice and guidance on many wellbeing topics and is aimed at people who would like to find out more about how they can help themselves or if necessary, take the next step to seek professional help.
