Supporting Career Progression in Infrastructure: Matthew Brown’s Journey

At McGinley Support Services, we take pride in not only supplying skilled professionals to infrastructure projects but also in actively supporting their career development. A great example of this is Matthew Brown, a dedicated Groundworker on the HS2 Delta Junction Earthworks project, delivered by Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV).

Matthew’s Journey with McGinley and BBV

Matthew has been an integral part of the BBV Delta Earthworks team for two years, working as a groundworker and actively contributing to the Delta Workers Committee. His commitment and positive attitude have earned him recognition from both his colleagues and senior management.

Recognising Potential and Commitment

During a recent Workers Committee meeting, Matthew expressed his ambition to progress in his career. Senior Works Manager Billy Caddick took the time to meet with him personally and, recognising his dedication, proposed a structured plan for his development. This included:

  1. Enrolment onto an NVQ programme – Aimed at working towards a Multi-Skilled Blue CSCS Card to broaden his skillset and qualifications.
  2. Booking onto an SSSTS course – A key step in preparing him for a leadership role as a Ganger in the coming months.

Billy Caddick emphasised that Matthew is a “credit to McGinley’s” and exhibits the right attitude and work ethic, making his progression a natural next step.

McGinley Support Services’ Role in Workforce Development

At McGinley Support Services, we don’t just fill roles – we invest in people. Matthew’s journey is a prime example of how we work closely with clients like BBV to ensure that skilled and committed individuals have the opportunity to grow within their roles. By facilitating access to training and qualifications, we help workers take meaningful steps in their careers while ensuring our clients benefit from a motivated and capable workforce.

The Bigger Picture

Infrastructure projects, particularly those on the scale of HS2, demand a workforce that is not only skilled but also engaged and future-focused. By providing training and development opportunities, we contribute to both the success of individuals like Matthew and the wider industry’s need for a strong and capable workforce.

We look forward to seeing Matthew take the next steps in his career and will continue to support his journey towards becoming a Ganger. His story is a testament to the value of investing in workforce development and the positive impact it can have on both individuals and the industry as a whole.
