The COVID 19 pandemic has changed many lives this year and no more so than how we go about daily activities. It has highlighted many elements that we took for granted, such as education, socialising and support of friends and family, particularly for the younger generation.
As part of our Advance programme, we wanted to make a difference in our local community, surrounding our head office in Watford.
We engaged with Watford Girls Grammar School to see if virtual connectivity was an issue for any of their pupils. Unfortunately, not every student has access to laptops or the internet when they are not in school.
As a result, we have provided the school with a set of laptops that they can use to support students who have very limited access to IT at home. This will ensure that they can continue to learn effectively at this challenging time.
Janet Hector, our CSR manager said ‘ As a construction recruitment business, we are always looking to address the gender balance to encourage more women to join our industry, so we were particularly keen to interact with bright young women and girls in this positive way’. Watford Girls Grammar School was a perfect fit. After much discussion regarding what was needed we donated several brand new Chromebooks for the school to allocate and support those with virtual connectivity issues at home”
Headmistress Sylvia Tai added: 'We are very grateful to McGinley for their generous support in providing these laptops. The last few months have demonstrated just how important access to IT is for students. These laptops will allow us to support students who have very limited access to IT at home, and so ensure that all the girls in this school can continue to learn effectively at this challenging time'.
